General Instructions: All questions are compulsory. Section A has 12 MCQs of 1 mark each. Internal choice is given in Sections B, C and D — attempt any ONE of the two options. For graphical questions, a rough sketch is enough. Substitute your final answer back into both equations to check it.
These three ratio conditions decide whether the two lines meet at one point, are parallel, or lie on top of each other.
Section A — Multiple Choice (12 × 1 = 12 marks)
Choose the single best option.
Total: 1 Mark
a1/a2 = 1, b1/b2 = −1
They are unequal → the lines intersect at one point → unique solution.
Total: 1 Mark
The c-ratio differing means they are not the same line.
Same slope, different line → parallel → no solution.
Total: 1 Mark
b1/b2 = 3/6 = 1/2
c1/c2 = 7/14 = 1/2
All three equal → coincident lines → infinitely many solutions.
Total: 1 Mark
b1/b2 = 2/6 = 1/3
Equal, so check c: c1/c2 = 5/20 = 1/4 ≠ 1/3
Parallel lines → no solution.
Total: 1 Mark
2x = 14 → x = 7
Then y = 10 − 7 = 3
Total: 1 Mark
Joining them gives a vertical line, parallel to the y-axis.
Total: 1 Mark
6x = 6 → x = 1
Total: 1 Mark
Parallel lines never meet → no solution.
Total: 1 Mark
Set 1/k = 1/2 → k = 2
Check c: 3/6 = 1/2 ✓
Total: 1 Mark
(b) 2 + 6 = 8 ✓; 2 − 3 = −1 ≠ 1 ✗
(c) 4 + 3 = 7 ✓; 2 + 3 = 5 ≠ 6 ✗
(d) 6 + 3 = 9 ✓; 2 + 6 = 8 ≠ 7 ✗
Total: 1 Mark
All three equal → the same line → coincident.
Total: 1 Mark
Adding: 2x = 18 → x = 9
y = 15 − 9 = 6
Section B — Short Answer (4 × 2 = 8 marks)
Total: 2 Marks
14 − 2y − 3y = 9
−5y = −5 → y = 1
x = 7 − 1 = 6
Total: 2 Marks
2/4 = 3/k = 5/10
Check c: 5/10 = 1/2 ✓
Total: 2 Marks
x + y = 3
Adding x + y = 3 and x − y = 7:
2x = 10 → x = 5, so y = 3 − 5 = −2
Total: 2 Marks
a1/a2 = b1/b2 ≠ c1/c2
1/3 = 2/k
c ratio = 5/12 ≠ 1/3 ✓
Total: 2 Marks
b1/b2 = 5/10 = 1/2
c1/c2 = 20/45 = 4/9 ≠ 1/2
[Attempt any ONE of the two options of Q16]
Section C — Long Answer (4 × 3 = 12 marks)
Total: 3 Marks
(5x − 4y = −2) × 3 → 15x − 12y = −6
3y = 9 → y = 3
Check: 5(2) − 4(3) = 10 − 12 = −2 ✓
Total: 3 Marks
2a − b = 9 … (2)
From (1): b = 6 − 5 = 1
Total: 3 Marks
Sum: (10a + b) + (10b + a) = 99
11(a + b) = 99 → a + b = 9
Adding: 2a = 12 → a = 6, b = 3
Check: 63 + 36 = 99 ✓
Total: 3 Marks
After 12 years: 3s + 12 = 2(s + 12)
s = 12
Check: in 12 years, 48 = 2 × 24 ✓
[Attempt any ONE of the two options of Q19]
Total: 3 Marks
7y + 3 = 10 → y = 1
Check: 3(2) + 4(1) = 10 ✓
Total: 3 Marks
3p + 5q = 49
Subtracting: 2p − 2q = 6 → p − q = 3
Check: 5(8) + 3(5) = 55 ✓
[Attempt any ONE of the two options of Q20]
Section D — Case Study (2 × 4 = 8 marks)
Total: 4 Marks
a + b = 20
3a + 5b = 76
Subtract from 3a + 5b = 76: 2b = 16 → b = 8
Check: 12(3) + 8(5) = 36 + 40 = 76 ✓
Total: 4 Marks
f + 10r = 105
f + 15r = 155
For 25 km: 5 + 25(10) = 5 + 250 = 255
Total: 4 Marks
3s + 2l = 31
2s + 3l = 34
Subtracting: s − l = −3 → l − s = 3
Solving: l = 8, s = 5
Check: 3(5) + 2(8) = 31 ✓
[Attempt any ONE of the two options of Q22]
