CBSE Class 10 Deleted Syllabus 2026-27 — Chapter-wise

What you can skip, and what you cannot. Since the syllabus was rationalised, a few Class 10 chapters and topics were removed from the NCERT books, and a small set of Science topics were kept in the syllabus but moved out of the board exam. This page lists them chapter-wise for Mathematics and Science, checked against the CBSE Class 10 curriculum for 2026-27 and the NCERT rationalised-content list.

Aligned to the CBSE 2026-27 session · Last updated 24 September 2026

Read this before you skip anything. There are two different things and older websites mix them up:
  • Removed from the book: the topic is not in the NCERT textbook, so it cannot be asked.
  • In the syllabus but not in the board exam: the material is still printed in the book and marked as reference, but CBSE says it will be assessed only formatively (portfolio / internal work), not in the year-end paper.
Never skip a whole chapter just because a list on the internet says so — check the chapter against your own school’s latest syllabus circular.

Class 10 Mathematics — removed from the 2026-27 syllabus

Class 10 Maths now has 14 chapters. The chapter below was dropped entirely; the rest lose only the topics listed.

ChapterTopic no longer in the syllabus
1 · Real NumbersEuclid’s division lemma · decimal expansions (terminating and non-terminating recurring) of rational numbers
2 · PolynomialsDivision algorithm for polynomials (statement and problems)
3 · Pair of Linear Equations in Two VariablesEquations reducible to a pair of linear equations
4 · Quadratic EquationsSolving by completing the square
7 · Coordinate Geometry
(listed as Ch 6 in some editions)
Area of a triangle
Constructions
(whole chapter)
Full chapter removed — division of a line segment and construction of tangents
12 · Surface Areas and VolumesFrustum of a cone · problems on converting one solid into another and other mixed problems
13 · StatisticsCumulative frequency graph (ogive)
TrigonometryTrigonometric ratios of complementary angles
Chapter numbers differ between editions. In the current NCERT book, Coordinate Geometry is Chapter 7 and Circles is Chapter 10; in some other lists the numbering shifts by one. Go by the chapter name, not the number.

Class 10 Science — removed from the book

Class 10 Science now has 13 chapters. These chapters are no longer in the book:

Chapter (old numbering)Status
Sources of Energy
(was Ch 14)
Whole chapter removed
Sustainable Management of Natural Resources
(was Ch 16)
Whole chapter removed
Periodic Classification of Elements
(was Ch 5)
Removed from the book; CBSE keeps the material as reference only (see below)
Human Eye & the Colourful WorldTopic removed: colour of the Sun at sunrise and sunset. The rest of the chapter (eye, defects of vision, prism, dispersion, scattering) stays.

Class 10 Science — in the book, but not in the board exam

For 2026-27, CBSE keeps a small set of Science topics in the syllabus but says they will be assessed only formatively — that is, through school portfolio or internal work, not in the year-end board paper. Learn them for understanding; do not build your revision around them.

TopicWhere it sits
Periodic Classification of ElementsChemistry — Döbereiner’s triads, Newlands’ law of octaves, Mendeléev’s table, the modern periodic table and gradation in properties
Evolution topicsBiology — acquired and inherited traits, speciation, evolution and classification, fossils, evolution by stages, human evolution. (The Heredity part of the chapter — Mendel’s laws and sex determination — stays in the exam.)
Electric motor · Electromagnetic induction · Electric generatorPhysics — Magnetic Effects of Electric Current. The rest of the chapter (magnetic field, field lines, solenoid, Fleming’s Left-Hand Rule, AC/DC, domestic circuits) stays in the exam.
The classic mistake: the same chapter mixes exam and non-exam parts. In Magnetic Effects of Electric Current, the motor and generator are formative-only, but Fleming’s Left-Hand Rule and domestic circuits are examinable. In Heredity, evolution is formative-only but Mendel’s laws are examinable. Do not write off the whole chapter.

Don’t skip these — they are still in the 2026-27 syllabus

Some lists floating around still mark these as “deleted”. They are listed in the current CBSE 2026-27 curriculum, so keep them in your revision:

  • Statistics — step-deviation method for the mean (the 2026-27 syllabus names direct, assumed-mean and step-deviation methods).
  • Pair of Linear Equations — graphical method and the consistency / inconsistency conditions.
  • Statistics — mean, median and mode of grouped data, and histograms / frequency polygons.

If a topic is not on this page and is in your NCERT textbook, treat it as part of the syllabus.

How this list was checked. Every item above was matched against the CBSE Class 10 curriculum for 2026-27 (the official subject documents for Mathematics 041/241 and Science 086) and the NCERT rationalised-content list for Class 10. Where a topic is retained as reference material, it is shown as in the book, not in the exam rather than simply “deleted” — because that is what prepares you correctly.
